“We always knew Theodore would make national headlines, but not like this…”
December 2010 is a month all Theodore locals will never forget.
A rising Dawson River from heavy rain in the catchment upstream, coupled with local creeks all running at record highs and local rain to add to the mix, all culminated in the biggest flood in living memory.
On Christmas Day while millions around Australia were opening their presents, Theodore locals were filling sandbags in a desperate attempt to save their homes, farms and businesses.
In true Theodore style everyone rallied together doing what they could not just for themselves, but for their neighbours, friends and community.
Unfortunately this wasn’t enough.
The resulting fews days lead to entire community being evacuated, an Australian first. Not one person in our community of 1000 has been left untouched by this tragedy.
We have now seen in 2011 and wonder what will happen to our beautiful little town as we contemplate where to start when rebuilding our community.
It is a journey of one day at a time and we invite you to come along with us – we need your support.
